Machine Know How Classes:

These classes are designed for Stitches Etc Preferred Customers to help them “bond” with their machines, are available at no extra charge, and are quite valuable!  Lear how to properly maintain your machine, troubleshoot and perform utility and decorative functions. Owners of machines obtained elsewhere may attend our classes IF there is room and for a fee.  Call to inquire. We request that you take your Know How Class as soon as possible after you purchase your machine! If you register for class but cannot attend, please call us a soon as possible: if you do not show up for a class that you have registered for and do not call to tell us that you cannot attend, you may forfeit your privilege to attend Know How Class in the future. Please notify us at 410-561-3101 if you would like to attend class and  bring pen and paper for taking notes, your machine and all it’s accessories, scissors, and pastel thread.

Do You Want to Learn How to Sew?

At Stitches Etc Home Center we’re always interested in helping folks learn how to sew with today’s wonderfully, easy to use Janome sewing  machines.  Do you have a group of 4—8 people that want to learn, then call us at 410-561-3101 or better yet stop by and we can talk with you about setting up a class or classes for your group!

At Stitches Etc we provide you with quality classes, service, and support and we request that you purchase your class materials from us since we have worked diligently to provide you with wonderful products!  EVERYTHING you buy from us is the best that we have found and when you purchase materials from us for class we make sure that you get the right stuff, as well as give you a discount!  When you register for classes please pay at the time of registration.  If you call in your registration, we must receive payment within 48 hours.  You may receive a full refund if you cancel more than 2 weeks before a class. If you cancel less than 2 days before class or do not show up you will, unfortunately, forfeit all class fees.  Since classes are a time to relax and enjoy—as well as to learn-for everyone, please leave babies and children at home. We also request that you respect your classmates and arrive to class on time and prepared for class. Unless noted, all classes are sit and sew and require you to bring your machines. Snow Policy—If Baltimore County schools are closed, class will be canceled and re-scheduled, on weekends we will call you if we are going to cancel/postpone due to weather.

2.0 Free Motion Fun Time, Saturday July 8th, 12:30

Here’s a great opportunity to come and practice your free motion skills!  We’ll be reviewing how to stitch several different motifs, so even if you are a beginner or more advanced, you’ll be sure to find a free motion skill you can master and enjoy!  We’ll practice and then make this cute zippered pouch that is a perfect replacement for a wallet - it’s got two pockets inside and your check book fits in there perfectly, too!  There is a little bit of patchwork homework for you to do BEFORE you come to class.  $25 includes a book and some supplies, pick up supply list.

4.0 Hoop Embroidered Place Mat Pouch

Saturday July 22nd, 2 pm

Stabilizers, holy cow - how can anyone ever master which embroidery stabilizers to use and when??? Well, here is a chance to play with one of our favorite nifty stabilizers, Sulky Sticky Fabri Solvy! It’s a great adhesive stabilizer that washes out when your embroidery is finished!  Pretty cool, huh!?!

This quick to stitch project takes a woven place mat (there’ lots of these around for summer time now) and put’s a pretty hoop embroidery on it!  You can select from any of your designs that re not too dense, or use a built in design or monogram.  Then we’ll turn it into a quilting tool pouch!  If your embroidery machine does not sew, don’t worry - you an use one of our sewing machines to complete he project! Pick up supply list, $10 (includes stabilizer and magnetic snap)

5.0 Sewing Machine Technique Review Tote, Saturday  August 5th AND 12th 1pm

This is a two session class designed to help you make a pretty tote bag AND review lots of different machine and sewing techniques!  The first meeting is our kick off/demo where we’ll show you how to get stated and then send you home to work on some homework.  In the 2nd session, we we work, hands on, putting in an inside pocket using the blind hem stitch, installing a top zippered flange, and completing the bag! $25 Pick up supply list

6.0 Lazy Angle Workshop, Saturday July 15th, 1 pm

The Lazy Angle tool is a nifty ruler that can be used to make all sorts of blocks, and in this workshop we’ll show you the basics of using the ruler with your stash of 5” charms!  We’ll explore all different ways of combining the basic Lazy Angle block to make a variety of different quilt blocks - and we’ll introduce you to the multi step Lazy Angle blocks, used to make the fireworks quilt below, and to Joan Hawley’s book Lazy and Lovin’ It - which is jam packed with oodles of Lazy Angle projects!

12.0 Embroidered in the Hoop Sewing Machine Pouch, July 29th, 1 pm

This adorable in the hoop project designed by Sue O’Very has a concealed zipper, a bonus back pocket, is fully lined and the CD has 3 different sizes for the bags!  We’ll be making the 5” x 7” size - and any one with the following formats can come - ART<DST<EXP<HUS<JEF<PES<SHV<VIP <VP#<XXX!!

We’ll have ALL the materials kited for you - including the adorable sewing machine zipper pull!  All you need to do is bring your embroidery machine, 5 x 7 hoop, bobbin thread, cream 50 wt cotton thread, and black rayon embroidery thread - along with some sewing notions (pick up supply list)  The class will be very helpful in teaching you how to step thru the process!  $30 - includes CD, fabric kit and print out of directions

13.0  Beyond Basic Know How, Saturday August 19th,  10 am

For Stitches Etc Preferred Customers that purchased their Janome, Elna, or Necchi sewing machines from us.  This class takes you the  next step beyond our Basic Know How class.  Learn how to make a machine blind hem, gather, make piping, and more!  FREE for Preferred Customers, but you must register.
